vinvolved now on youtube!

vinvolved East London, a programme run by Changemakers in partnership with BTCV have launched their very own YouTube channel. Check out the channel to view a range of short videos:

http://www.youtube.com/user/vinvolvedeastlondon

The range of videos give you a flavour of what the vinvolved East London team has got up to since the programme began, (please note that we are only half way into the programme when this was created)! Listen to young people from across East London talk about their journeys through volunteering and see for yourself the positive impact they have made. A total of 25 young people aged 16-25 were interviewed about their volunteering across 10 boroughs of London, the videos, a range of case studies and short documentaries document their experiences.

Weoley Castle Festival

The Weoley Castle Festival was organised by the Weoley Castle Festival Committee who are being supported by the Third Sector Incubator based at Newman University College. As part of the Incubator, Changemakers were there providing recognition for the volunteers, helping to manage the large number of volunteers on the day and getting stuck in ourselves with some heavy lifting. We also made several valuable links with local organisations. Helped by beautiful weather, the event was very well attended and a great success. Special mention to  Scott who excelled at selling raffle tickets.

East London young people celebrate with Changemakers

V – Be Free
The vinvolved East London volunteer celebration event.

On 26th September at Passing Clouds the vinvolved East London team put on a celebration event for young people packed with activities and entertainment for all our young volunteers. A fantastic response was received from all the volunteering organisations and young visitors who attended and a great day was had by all. The whole event was powered by v volunteers from photographers to presenters as well as event staff, models and stage managers. There was glitter galore at the get branded stations where our volunteer glitter artists applied glittery v’s and temporary tattoos to our guests. The message was “volunteering gives you freedom of choice” or v - Be Free.

With vegetarian canapés and our tropical fruit juice bar run by our volunteer caterers to keep everyone’s energy levels up, young people were able to get down to the sounds of performances by talented young people with some performers as young as 12 wowing the crowd but not before the South East YAT team showed their film on Gun and Knife crime which they have just finished filming, directing and editing. Please check out some of the photo’s taken by our volunteer at www.myspace.com/oranblackwood. The folder is labelled vinvolved.

Birmingham young people celebrate with Changemakers

Changemakers held a Celebration Evening recently - in Birmingham - for 16-25 year olds who volunteer in the community or have won funding for their own community projects.   The aim of the evening was to recognise their contribution and bring young people in Birmingham together to say thank you.  The evening involved entertainment, presentations of vAwards and a three course meal.

The event took place at the REP Theatre on Centenary Square, Birmingham, on Thursday 24th September between 6:30-9:30pm.

'v part of it' in Times Square, Newcastle.

On Saturday 22nd August, the v part of it event was held in Newcastle. It provided an afternoon of local acts, gave information about local volunteering opportunities, and played host to the big v bus.

The day went well with a steady stream of young people finding out about how to get involved with  volunteering in their area, and small crowds gathered to enjoy the entertainment. The event had been organised by Tyne and Wear youth action teams with support of local v teams.

These young volunteers, along with several young people who came along to volunteer with specific aspects of the day, made a great team and helped make the day the success it was.

We would like to thank all the young volunteers, the performers, and the staff for helping to make the event possible.
